  • Uncle Steve and Aunt LaurenIt’s kind of funny that a relative can force another relative to assume a title and role that the first relative may never have wanted or been expecting.
Women become grandmothers without doing a thing. Men become grandfathers without lifting a finger. But perhaps those roles are expected and presumed because after all, those same women and men had children of their own and would likely expect their children to produce more.
But the roles of aunt and uncle fall in a slightly different category. There’s no assumption that your brother or sister expect you to have children in order to make them an uncle or aunt. And yet the titles of uncle and aunt carry great responsibility.
Aunts and uncles are supposed to be fun. They’re cooler alternatives to their nephews’ and nieces’ parents. You only see them once in awhile, but you kinda wish your parents were more like them.
The last few paragraphs are simply a long-winded preface to introducing Uncle Steve and Aunt Lauren. Steve, my brother, is the perfect candidate for uncle.
He laughs a lot, is ridiculously smart, makes funny jokes and was genuinely excited about the prospects of unclehood. You can tell he’ll be a good uncle because he wears T-shirts like the one above.
I can’t wait for Logan to become aware of his uncle and aunt and learn to love them like I do.
