Meet the Grandparents
For nearly two weeks, Leah and I have been the recipients of a massive amount of help from Logan’s grandparents on both sides, who eagerly made the trek to North Carolina to meet their grandson and assist us.
Leah’s mom, Nancy, and her husband, Bill, arrived late Friday, the day we got home from the hospital. They spent a week cooking, cleaning and getting up in the middle of the night to give Leah and me a break. Bill even spent a day putting up much-needed shelves in my garage. Thanks, Bill!
A mid-week, 3 a.m. trip to the emergency room because of an allergic reaction Nancy had to some food didn’t slow her down one bit. She cooked dinner that night and continued to be a huge help and comfort to Leah in the middle of the night.
Less than 12 hours after Nancy and Bill headed for home, my mom, Gladys, showed up. My dad, John, flew in early the next morning. They continued to provide the same time of help: grocery shopping, planning meals, comforting Logan and working on projects around the house.
Dad flew back to New Jersey early Tuesday, but Mom will stick around through this coming weekend.
Steve and Lauren, my brother and sister-in-law, arrive Saturday morning for a quick, one-night visit. Then we have a couple of days to ourselves before Leah’s dad, Tom, and his wife, Donna, come for Thanksgiving.
It’s been amazing to see the kind of support our family is willing to provide when we go through a life-changing event like the birth of a child. We haven’t lifted a finger in the kitchen for nearly two weeks. What a blessing to be able to rest and focus on taking care of Logan.
Thank you, family, for your generous support in this exciting time.
